The review embargo for Rage 2 has just lifted, and you’ll likely be seeing pieces from other sites going live around about now. Unfortunately, we only received code this morning, a handful of hours before the embargo, so we’ll be unable to bring you our own review until later this week.
It’s a slightly frustrating state of affairs, though not exactly a new one. You might recall a handful of years ago that Bethesda laid out its stall when it came to handing out review code before release – a policy that was riddled with inconsistencies and was subsequently quietly dropped. I’m told that early code for Rage 2 was PC only, and the decision was made to give the limited amount at hand to PC-dedicated sites.
Of course, as I’ve said before, it’s not our god-given right to have access to code before launch. Bethesda is at liberty to do whatever it pleases with its own games, and is under no obligation to provide us with early access. I’m personally greatly looking forward to spending time with this intriguing looking marriage of id’s shooter chops with Avalanche’s open world expertise, and I’m hoping we’ll have our own thoughts on Rage 2 with you before the end of the week.
